Even though it seems easy, choosing the most durable roofing material to make your roof more resilient than any other in the neighborhood can be pretty hard. Even though a durable material like concrete or slate might be built to last for many decades, if not centuries, the price can be pretty high, too. Also, issues like maintenance and the performance of the material under certain weather conditions can come up as well.

The best thing to do is to choose among the top most durable materials and make sure you choose wisely. So, first we have to establish what the most durable roofing materials really are. According to most experts, like those at Stinson Services, they are slate, concrete and metal.

Now, depending on the type of metal used, the price of a metal roof can get pretty high. However, there are cheaper metals like steel, which are far less expensive than slate or concrete, but can still last for up to 75 years. Concrete is similar if not better, and natural slate is considered the most durable, being rated at around 150 years. There is still some debate as to whether or not most types of synthetic slate can reach that level.

The bottom line is, if you need a durable but cheaper material, you’re better off using metal. However, if you want the most durable and resilient materials regardless of the price, your best choices are, slate, concrete and a more expensive type of metal such as copper.
