Neighborhood Remodeling Guidelines

Minneapolis, MN Neighborhood Remodeling Projects

The last installment on our return on investment (ROI ) home remodeling tips is finally here. This home remodeling blog is quick and easy to understand if you just think back to the appraisal process and how home comparisons give value to your Minnesota property.

When performing remodeling projects in the Minneapolis area, you want to make sure that you understand the surrounding neighborhood. As we discussed previously, if your home has 3 bedrooms and 1 full bathroom and your entire neighborhood has 3 bedrooms with 1 1/2 bathrooms, finding a way to add the 1/2 bathroom would generate more than enough ROI for your home remodeling project.

The same goes for interior remodeling. If your neighborhood has a high quality interior finish you may need to make some slight upgrades to your kitchen or living room to help the comparison value. This doesn’t mean you need to install granite counter tops, or lay down expensive mahogany flooring in your living room. It means you might want to consider new plastic laminate counters or a cheaper upgrade in flooring. Maybe just refurbishing your current wood flooring would be the best plan?

The idea is to keep up with the Jones, but not surpass the Jones. The major payoffs come when you’re able to add a few key ingredients to your home to bump up the comparison value without going to the extremes and over paying for it.
