Flat roofs are usually made from durable materials that can withstand a lot, but even so, the roof type has its own, specific problems that owners should watch out for. Here are some:
- Leaks and issues caused by the presence of excessive moisture – due to the special configuration of flat roofs, water that cannot drain properly has only one way to go and that is down, towards the inside of the building. Fortunately, moving around on flat roofs is easier than in the case of sloping roofs, so it is easier to identify the source of the leak and to remedy the problem is easier, too; Minneapolis Stinson Services does an excellent job identifying leaks and repairing flat roofs.
Buckling – asphalt membrane is the most common material used for making flat roofs and buckling is the most common issue that affects asphalt roofs. The problem appears when the roofing membrane can no longer follow the shifting and the settling process of the building itself. Unfortunately, the only way to remedy the problem is to remove the old membrane and to replace it with a new one;
- Rusting and denting – these issues affect metal roofs. While the dents caused by some sort of impact, such as small hail, are mostly only cosmetic in nature, rusty components need to be either corrected or replaced.
