On November 21st our team volunteered at Second Harvest Heartland in Brooklyn Park. Second Harvest Heartland is “one of the nation’s largest, most effective and most innovative hunger relief organizations, Second Harvest Heartland works closely with more than a thousand partnering food shelves, food pantries and other meal programs.”

We were tasked with sorting and packing onions. As Second Harvest explained these are onions that a perfectly ok to eat, just not the best looking or the right size for grocery store shelves. We disposed the onions that were non-edible which was not as many as you would think with the amount of onions total we sorted through.

In our two hour shift our volunteer group packed over 300 bags of onions totaling over 13,000 lbs!! See our photos below!
